No-exam life insurance
Understanding who qualifies for faster underwriting decisions, what the process involves, and what happens if you're not in the accelerated program.
Many carriers now use accelerated underwriting, meaning they can evaluate and approve your application for amounts under a certain threshold using data from your application, prescription records, driving history, and other information—without scheduling an in-person exam. Decisions can sometimes be made the same day. The details on each quote display whether an exam is required, may be required, or is not needed for that particular product.
What it changes
Skipping a medical exam is not the same as skipping underwriting review. The information you provide is checked thoroughly, and a policy issued based on false information can be contested during the first two years. If anything in the carrier's research requires clarification, they may still request an exam or testing before moving forward.
Who tends to qualify
Typically, applicants younger than 60 applying for amounts below the carrier's accelerated maximum, with no serious health issues and no tobacco use within the past year or longer are candidates. If you've had a recent medical appointment with lab results, some carriers will use those in place of requesting an exam.
Should an exam be necessary, plan for roughly 20 to 30 minutes with a paramedic coming to your location (home or workplace) within the Costa Mesa region, and there's no charge for this service. For people in good health, undergoing an exam frequently results in a more favorable rate tier, so the exam can actually work in your favor.
